| The Caddo-Bossier Citizen Corps was formed in April of 2003 to meet the growing community need for coordinated volunteer efforts in support of disaster preparedness.
The Council is comprised of private and public sector leaders who work to identify preparedness needs, develop specific programs to meet those needs, provide community education, and find the resources to make programs viable .In particular, the Council supports the programs of the Citizen Corps, all of which fall under the Caddo-Bossier Parishes Office of Emergency Preparedness. These programs include Community Emergency Response Teams, Medical Reserve Corps, Volunteers in Police Service, and Neighborhood Watch.

Do you know what to do if a tornado is approaching your home? Are you interested in learning how local emergency response agencies work together in local disasters? The Caddo-Bossier Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will be offering a free twenty hour Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course at the Shreveport Fire and Training Academy starting April 6, 2010 and running for three additional Tuesday nights from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and all training material including a light rescue bag is offered free of charge. CERT training is designed to prepare you to help yourself, your family, and your neighbors in the event of a catastrophic disaster. Because emergency services personnel will not be able to help everyone immediately, you can make a difference by using CERT training to save lives and protect property. The Caddo-Bossier Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, along with CAMPUS COMPACT, hosted a “CAMPUS CERT” training course for the Northwest Louisiana Colleges and Universities. On December 17 – 18, 2008, Caddo-Bossier OHSEP, along with the Shreveport Fire Department and Police Department, conducted an extensive two-day hands-on emergency training exercise for 44 attendees. Liz Swaine, Executive Assistant to Shreveport Mayor Keith Hightower, will be honored Thursday, June 22 at 10:30am at the Caddo-Bossier Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP), 1511 Doctor's Drive, Bossier City, for her efforts in assisting this North Louisiana community during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Swaine was named as a winner of the “2006 Dedication Award” presented by the Louisiana Emergency Preparedness Association at their annual awards banquet earlier this month. The emergency response of the medical community of Northwest Louisiana to the needs of Hurricane Katrina and Rita evacuees was nothing short of phenomenal. This effort was largely organized “on the fly” but has been widely recognized for its effectiveness by others in our state and around the country.
