The Caddo-Bossier Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will be offering a free twenty hour Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course at the Bossier Emergency Operations Center located at 1511 Doctors Drive in Bossier City starting January 5, 2010 and running for three additional Tuesday nights from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. CERT training is designed to prepare you to help yourself, your family, and your neighbors in the event of a catastrophic disaster. Because emergency services personnel will not be able to help everyone immediately, you can make a difference by using CERT training to save lives and protect property. On February 26, 2009, members of the Caddo-Bossier Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, Shreveport Fire Department, Caddo Parish Sheriff Office and the Caddo Fire District #5 conducted both classroom and hands-on training on Incident Command and Unified Command Concept Training with the Caddo-Bossier Port Authority. The Caddo-Bossier Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, along with CAMPUS COMPACT, hosted a “CAMPUS CERT” training course for the Northwest Louisiana Colleges and Universities. On December 17 – 18, 2008, Caddo-Bossier OHSEP, along with the Shreveport Fire Department and Police Department, conducted an extensive two-day hands-on emergency training exercise for 44 attendees. The 18th annual Tornado Safety Poster Contest was held during APRIL for all 5th graders throughout the two-parish area by the Caddo-Bossier Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. Liz Swaine, Executive Assistant to Shreveport Mayor Keith Hightower, will be honored Thursday, June 22 at 10:30am at the Caddo-Bossier Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP), 1511 Doctor's Drive, Bossier City, for her efforts in assisting this North Louisiana community during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Swaine was named as a winner of the “2006 Dedication Award” presented by the Louisiana Emergency Preparedness Association at their annual awards banquet earlier this month.
